Subject: "George" built wood single
To: buckley@rumford.com
This is the history of "Glove".
Built for Eleanor McElvaine by Stan in 1979.
Sold to Marty Beyer
He stopped competing regularly when he founded Everett Rowing Association and took up coaching in 1984.
Sold the single to me in 1986 in need of refurbishment. I took it to the Pocock shop in Everett. Bob Brunswick refinished and redecked my single in his style not Stan's. My boat came with white decks with blue tape. It now has varnished decks with wood bedes. Stan signed my boat on the seat deck shortly after it was completed when he went through the serial number with me. 3 or 4 years ago Bob varnished my boat again.
There are two modifications I have done to the boat as well. I eliminated the #10 plastic coffee lids from the deck and installed modern hatches. I also had Bob put stainless shoulder protectors under the rigger bolts to keep the shoulders from getting crushed and split over the years as I row the boat regularly year round.
I started with a red deck and gray hulled Carbocraft that I sold to Fuchs in Bellingham. I have been trying to find that boat for the last few years.
You already have pictures of Glove, so here is the serial number
